Here in Lucedale, MS we used to have a local source of protein produced by local farmers and slaughtered here in the county by people everyone knew and went to church with. It was the way things used to be. The the supermarket powers came on the scene and changed everything in the late '80s. They started putting small businesses and local farmers out of business by offering cheaper products that seemed like a great improvement at first. This was before everyone found out what the industrialized food chain was really giving us. That was not just a good bargain on meat that came from far far away, but it also included meat that was full of antibiotics and growth hormones that we were feeding to our children for almost two decades.

This is where we come in. We are giving our community a way to opt out of the industrialized food chain. We are trying to give back the  peace of mind, solidarity and a connection to our food that we once took for granted.   Homestead Farm and Packing isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, but untangle the mess we've got ourselves in by bringing us back to localized farming. Know your farmer is our simple message. Know where your food comes from and what's in it. With that, we can live healthier and happier lives.
